mys·tique

Pronunciation:

\mi-'stek\

French, from mystique, adjective, mystic, from Latin mysticus

3. Photographer in Washington state

yeah, that looks super cool, but really? I came up with my name in a silly way. We were driving down the road, heading into Spokane in 1992 i think? maybe 1991. I look to the right, and a car was passing us. The name on the car was the "Mercury Mystique" I think..... Mystique....mystique... yeah... that is cool. It stuck. :) It was the only name i could keep in my head.. ha ha. So, Mystique it was.

Caroline and Linda

A friend of mine Caroline is an amazing model and a wonderful human to boot.  Another friend of mine Linda http://www.lindakubik.com/ is a weaver/ pattern maker extraordinaire.  So, Linda wanted some newer photo’s of her amazing creations, and Caroline wanted some stuff for her portfolio, well……..  can you see my mind going here?  You betcha.  Caroline and her sweetie guy went to Ritzville with me for a fashion shoot.  Man did we have a ball!  Linda’s stuff hangs on Carolines lovely frame so very perfectly.  We shot in a old house, a field of bunch grass and a gravel pit.  Only down side of the day was we ran out of light. haha.  Anyways, thank you ladies, i had a ball.

today’s quote

Having once decided to achieve a certain task, achieve it at all costs of tedium and distaste. The gain in self-confidence of having accomplished a tiresome labor is immense.

Chrissy and Mike engagement…

well, retroactive. They got married last year, and we didn’t have time to do a lot of the things they wanted to. So, Mike lands at noon straight from Japan, and Chrissy grabs him at the airport, drags him out to the studio, wiggles back in her gown, i lace her up and we go take a few more photos!
They also did not have time to do their engagement shoot, so we did it, yeah a year later! hey, cool photo’s are cool photo’s right? Anyways, we had a blast and here’s some photo’s to enjoy.
Thanks you guys!
Love ya!

Hey folks!

Hey, sorry i have been lacking on the posting, it’s been a hell of a couple months.  Back in the beginning of  December the pipes broke in my bathroom.  Since my bathroom is upstairs over my office, you can only imagine the carnage.  Everything got ruined.  Everything.  I had water coming out in the gallons from my can light fixtures, and running down my walls in sheets.  It was the worst thing  ive ever seen.

That night, i went to bed at about 12 am. (normal)  and the cats were in my bathroom, in the shower.. I thought, well, how odd right?  Shrugged it off and went to bed.

About 45 minutes later, i hear gma downstairs yelling “LORI LORI OMG LORI!”  I launch outta bed, thinking omg shes fallen, something bad has happened…  throw on a robe, and run downstairs.  She’s ok (whew!)  but she takes me fast to the office…. and,

oh hell

oh double hell.

the rooms weeping water.   gallons, tons, of water.

well, why did not you just shut it off right?  One word.

panic.

Where in the world is the water shut off.  lol.  crap!! Oh yeah, it’s out in the pump house in the yard!  It’s like 3,000 degrees below zero, so i pull my boots on and run like crazy for the pump house.   omg omg omg it’s cold.  I get to the door, whip it open (and my bathrobe, did i mention it’s cold?)

standing there, trying to catch my breath… now what.  There’s a box w/ switches,  and knobs on pipes on the floor….

now what.

So, i turn knobs and flick switches and run back to the house.   Well, the tank has to drain, so, we keep moving containers around, and tossin it out the door when full.  Drag what we can out of the office, laying out what is soaking.  All my paperwork and a ton of my books are destroyed.  My computers, completley saturated.  Amber turns the monitors over, and water pours out of them. Hard drives.  Same deal.  Everything is completley soaked.  ARGH!

Anyways, i will spare you all the gory details.  The room was gutted, and put back together.  I’m still working on putting it back together, and we should be back up to full speed in the next week and a half.

Winter beauty

When it’s so lovely (also icky) outside i love taking the 1.4 lens and shooting wide open. (shallow depth of field) It really isolates and makes the subject stand out. When it’s foggy for a good while (as you know) the fog is outstanding. Here are a few more winter picks that i thought were cool.
Also, people ask me all the time what i do for fun. I just smile and say “take picks”

Winter wonderland

Hey everyone, haven’t been on the computer for a while much. At the beginning of December my pipes broke over top of my computers and hosed all my machines. Totally soaked Everything. So a service called Mister Service came in and stripped my office, now it’s in the dining room. haha.
The real downside to this is it’s impossible to access ANYTHING…. Sooo, in the interm i have been plowing snow and hangin out with the kiddo’s. I shot a few families for christmas, but not as much as usual. Given a crappy economy and impossible driving, it is what it is. :) dscf9499-small

Ok yeah, its been a little bit since i shot these picks…. but i realized today i never posted their sneak peeks!  So, forgive me and have a little peek anyways.

Not only is this family beautiful, kind, fun… but they are my dear friends.  I have been blessed with being this families photographer for many many years now.

We went to the finch when the leaves were falling.  It was so amazing, thank you for meeting me there.  My dear friend Brian with Four seasons came from Cda and helped me with lighting, it’s super handy to have another set of hands sometimes! Thank you again Brian!
